The Elephant Is On The Move Again!

GoogleFiberNow that Google has experienced engaging Kansas City in their ultra high-speed fiber vision, they are moving on to Austin, Texas and Provo, Utah next. And in the background, not knowing where the elephant will move to next, the cable companies and high-speed internet providers are beginning to offer higher speeds and better value. In the past few years Monica and I have been fortunate to experience wide-band speeds when they were initially introduced in both Dallas and in Kansas City. And while we didn’t remain in Kansas City long enough to personally experience Google’s 1 Gb service,  we remain excited about it none-the-less. And with certainty it can be said that the movement of this elephant is raising the bar for ISP’s beyond Kansas City, Austin, and Provo.

Here is an interesting article that discusses the current status, as well as some of the competitive dynamics of the Google fiber deployment project. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/04/20/general-weekend-content-that-was-fast-google-fiber.aspx

So the question to be answered by future history: How many cities will Google fiber wire before announcing the introduction of 10 Gb service?

An Elephant Moved: Search Based Google TV

This is the revolution that is (and has been) taking place in the competition for mind space. From the ’50’s and ’60’s where turning the channel selector knob to one of 3 network stations was the norm … to finding your remote control in the 1980’s and choosing one of hundreds of cable channel choices … the evolution continues with GoogleTV, search based content delivery.

There are many social ramifications to this development, but certainly one of the most exciting (and challenging) is that content development is no longer restricted to the manipulations of a few giant media companies. Barring government intervention, content from all social and economic environments may soon have distribution access to the place where most people spend the largest amounts of their free time … the TV.

Update 2011: The Quest For Eternal Life

“IBM Unveils Chips That Mimic The Brain” was the title of the article that caught my attention this morning. Progress, it seems, toward a futurist’s projection of eternal life in about 2020 A.D. The link to the IBM story is here.
Here is the original story that we began tracking a few short years ago in 2005 that predicted eternal life would become viable in about 15 years https://garydennington.wordpress.com/2005/11/07/futurist-predicts-eternal-life-in-the-near-future/

Testing A Media Player: SoundCloud

Most of our library is in video format, not surprising as that is what we do… make videos. That being said, we are now in the process of converting our video library to digital audio (MP3) files and looking at podcasting and new ways of distribution.

Here is a player that I like from SoundCloud. SoundCloud also seems to have a number of “listeners”, which is a nice bonus, but the primary benefit is a high quality audio player that packs a lot of information and flexibility into a tight cyber media package that is easily shared in digital communities.

Here is a player that I set up for music:

And here is one that I set up for Bible teaching:

_________________________________________________________________

Help me test these players! Try them out and see how they work. The audio Bible teachings can be downloaded … all 1 & 1/2 hours of them! The player includes a description of the series of teachings, a description of each Bible teaching, a link to the video if a video has been released, and an easy way to share the Bible study with your friends and family. The music player includes the lyrics for each song, a video (if available), a picture, a link to purchase the track, and an easy way to share the collection.

So, this is where we may be headed…. but first, help me test them out and let me know what you think!
